Planning for the long term - update

Customers' number one priority for the water industry is safe, reliable supplies of water at a price they can afford. To deliver this, it's critically important that the water industry plans for the long term, because decisions and investments made today will determine the level of service that the industry can provide well into the future.

The water-industry led project to help shape a high level strategy and framework for the long term planning of water resources in England and Wales is making good progress. The first stakeholder workshop was held in November; three more are planned.

An independent review panel has been appointed to scrutinise the project's scope, methods and results. The panel comprises: Professor Jim Hall ( University of Oxford, panel chair); Dr Steve Wade (Met Office); Dr Colin Fenn (Hydo-Logic Solutions) and Robin Smale (Vivid Economics). The next workshop will be in February 2016, with the final report due in in the middle of 2016 and we will keep stakeholders updated on progress.
