Water sector comes together for the public good

Ofwat have made public their new vision for the future of the water industry which aims to guide the sector towards having the most positive impact possible on society and the environment.

This is an important time for the sector and it is absolutely right that we work together – companies, customers, regulators, policymakers and stakeholders – to overcome the challenges we face and deliver a flourishing future for water.

Ofwat’s announcement follows hot on the heels of the release of our ‘Public Interest Commitment that set out how water companies in England plan to face-up to these challenges as well as meet the high expectation of consumers.

The Public Interest Commitment reinforced water companies in England determination to put the public interest at the heart of everything we do as well as setting out a number of specific commitments around leakage, bills and the environment.

There is no doubt that we in the water sector have to confront some profound challenges such as climate change, population growth leading to increased demand, and greater customer expectations.

Access to clean, affordable and sustainable water is a fundamental human right and the water industry takes its stewardship of this vital resource extremely seriously.  Ofwat wants to develop a clear, common vision which all parties in the industry will work to achieve. The water industry looks forward to playing a vital role in making this vision a reality.
