Michael Roberts, Chief Executive responds to CC Water's Water Matters report.

Water UK's Chief Executive, Michael Roberts, has responded to the SMF's report on the costs of nationalising the water industry.

The Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS), with the support of WaterSafe and UK water companies, has launched a campaign to raise awareness of plumbing notification laws.

Water bills on average comprise less than 1% of household expenditure, and water companies continue to help all hard-pressed UK households by charging stable and affordable prices.

The latest results for compliance to the European Bathing Water Directive by UK coastal and inland bathing waters show that:
• 95.4% of UK bathing waters met the minimum standard - that is 595 out of 624 bathing waters
• 60% of bathing waters met the Directive’s excellent standard

Visitors to England’s seaside and bathing waters will be able to enjoy cleaner water than ever before, thanks to improvements made over the past two decades. Bathing water quality, tested at 413 beaches and lakes across the country, is the best on record with 98.5% passing tough standards this year.

The Department for Environment, has announced today that 98.3% of bathing waters in England met the tough standards for water quality in 2017.
