Briefing Note: Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill

This briefing note highlights three key policy areas which should be revised or incorporated into the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill (LURB), in order to improve the natural environment, reduce flood risk, improve water and energy efficiency, and eliminate unnecessary costs for water customers.

Our briefing sets out our three areas of priority for the bill:

  1. Stopping nature-based solutions from being taken off the off the table in tackling nutrient pollution, given NBS can reduce nutrients in a faster, cheaper, and greener way than the government’s proposed solution
  2. Keeping surface water out of sewers, which will cut sewage spills and reduce flood risk, whilst accelerating housebuilding
  3. Reducing water demand by introducing measures to make new and existing homes more water efficient, leaving more water for nature.
