Highly skilled apprentices help water sector meet future challenges

The water industry is fully committed to the training and career development of apprentices as part of its work to deliver its commitments to its customers and the environment, now and for the future.

Water companies provide a wide range of opportunities for hundreds of ambitious and talented young people within their regions to learn and achieve success.

Many of the roles are in engineering, where the apprenticeship programmes develop the skills to ensure we maintain the very best quality water to drink and that our wastewater is taken away safely and treated to the best standards.

Sarah Mukherjee, Environment Director, Water UK, said: "National Apprenticeship Week gives us an opportunity to pay tribute to the industry's young apprentices who are an inspiration and a huge source of pride for us.

"There are plenty of fantastic success stories across the UK from our sector. This is also due to the commitment among the companies and in particular to the experienced and dedicated staff taking the time to mentor and develop this future talent."

For National Apprenticeship Week 2015, Water UK has highlighted examples of schemes that companies have available and some of the individual success stories within the water sector.
