Bathing water quality, tested at 413 beaches and lakes across the country, is the best on record with 98.5% passing tough standards this year.

A report published today (26 April) by the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee, scrutinising the implementation of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010, supports many of the positions adopted by Water UK in its evidence to the Committee.

The latest results for compliance to the European Bathing Water Directive by UK coastal and inland bathing waters show that:
• 95.4% of UK bathing waters met the minimum standard - that is 595 out of 624 bathing waters
• 60% of bathing waters met the Directive’s excellent standard
