Following the publication of the Environment Bill in October 2019, Water UK made recommendations for amendment and additions. This provided the basis for our submission to the EFRA Select Committee Inquiry on 1 November 2019.

Water companies are set to complete a five-year investment programme worth £25 billion, while keeping rises in the average household water and sewerage bill below inflation in 2014-15. In November 2009, a five-year package of investment and prices was finalised and April 2014 sees the final year of that package.

Water companies in England and Wales will invest more than £8 billion in 2018-19. The average household water and sewerage bill in England and Wales for 2018-19 will rise by less than inflation, and will help the ongoing investment.

Water companies across the UK are working with Sainsbury’s and Waitrose to give away around 200,000 fat traps and funnels to people buying their Christmas turkey or roast. Each year, thousands of sewer blockages happen because people pour cooking fat, oil and grease (FOG) down their kitchen sinks.
