In response to last summer’s unprecedented demand for water, Water UK and water efficiency experts Waterwise joined forces in a new campaign to raise awareness of the pressures on the UK’s water resources and help the public to take water-saving measures at home.
Water’s Worth Saving was launched in summer 2020 to provide simple advice for cutting water use, such as taking shorter showers, using water butts in the garden, and reusing water where possible. The campaign reached nearly 20 million people and generated over 50 million opportunities for consumers to see our key water-saving messages.
Launching again this April, Water’s Worth Saving 2021 builds on the success of last year’s campaign and continues to target UK households, as well as appealing to new audiences like young people aged 16-24.
Last year we saw a dramatic change in the pattern of water use, as more people stayed at home. An expected surge in ‘staycations’ means water usage is likely to be high over the summer months. This is why taking water-saving measures have never been more urgent or important.
This year’s campaign will aim to explain the why as well as the how of water-saving, build relationships with groups representing high water users and expand our reach and engagement with millions of households.
Some water tips:
- Knock a minute or two off your shower – use the Waterwise Shower Playlist on Spotify to keep you on track
- Take pride in letting your car get and stay dirty
- Let your lawn go brown – it will soon go green again when it rains
- Top up the paddling pool – instead of refilling it every day. When you’ve finished, use the water on your plants and grass so it’s not wasted
