Opening the water retail market
The launch of the water retail market in England on the 1st April marked the successful delivery of one of the largest and most complicated industry-wide change programmes ever undertaken by the water sector.
More than 1.2 million businesses, charities and public sector customers in England, from micro businesses and SMEs to large corporates and the public sector, can now choose their water retailer for the first time.
Eligible customers in England and Scotland are now able to negotiate a better deal with their existing company, or switch companies, for retail services such as billing and metering. Where customers switch, the water they use will still be provided by their current regional wholesale provider.
In order to ensure customers were aware of the campaign, the water sector worked to create a simple, but distinctive campaign through the Open Water brand, using a highly agile and targeted approach to online marketing.
The campaign reached over 5.4 million potential decision makers, and exceeded all industry benchmark performance metrics.
