WaterAid is an international
non governmental organisation dedicated exclusively to the provision of safe domestic water, sanitation and hygiene education to the world's poorest people.

These most basic services are essential to life; without them vulnerable communities are trapped in the stranglehold of disease and poverty.

Together with local organisations WaterAid uses practical solutions to provide safe water to the poorest people in 17 countries in Africa, Asia and the Pacific region. So that health benefits are maximised, it does this through projects that combine domestic water supply with sanitation and hygiene education.

WaterAid works in both rural and urban areas with individuals and families in their communities, paying special attention to the most vulnerable people, to help them set up, operate and maintain their own projects so that they last long into the future.

WaterAid also seeks to influence the policies of other key organisations, such as governments, to secure and protect the right of poor people to safe, affordable water and sanitation services.

Over the last 25 years WaterAid has helped over 8.5 million people take their first steps out of poverty through access to safe, clean water.
