The National Heart Forum is a leading alliance of over 50 national organisations working to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease and related conditions in the UK.
Our diverse alliance comprises charities, non-governmental organisations and medical professional organisations.
We lobby government, policy makers and industry to improve awareness and prevention strategies for coronary heart disease and related conditions such as raised blood pressure, stroke and diabetes.
Our remit covers nutrition and diet, food marketing, smoking and physical activity, with the focus on prevention of avoidable disease.
Cardiovascular heart disease is the leading single cause of death in the UK and claimed the lives of around 120,000 people in 2003. Approximately one in four men and one in six women will die of the disease. It can be responsible for years of disability and ill health.
We take a holistic approach to heart disease prevention looking at medical, social, economic and environmental dimensions. Drinking good quantities of fresh water is an important component of maintaining a healthy diet, a fit heart and a healthy cardiovascular system.
