South Staffordshire Water is highlighting the importance of good hydration through its Water for Health campaign and the work of its Blithfield Education Centre team.
With a responsibility to supply a population of nearly 1.25 million people with fresh drinking water, the South Staffordshire team feels it is important to help their consumers know more about the very high quality and safety of their tap water, and to encourage consumers to realise the health benefits of staying well hydrated.
Schools campaign
“South Staffs water is committed to promoting the ‘Water for Health’ message and has produced an interactive CD for Water for Health aimed at schoolchildren.
"Our two cartoon characters, Phil (below) and Sip (right), are used to convey the message that tap water is important for health and that every child should have access to tap water at all times whilst at school,” said a spokesperson for the team.
South Staffs is actively encouraging local schools to get in contact. Their area of supply stretches from the edge of Ashbourne in the north to Halesowen in the south, and from Burton on Trent in the east to Kinver in the west.
Anyone interested in promoting Water for Health in their school should contact Steven Blower at the Blithfield Education Centre.

Care coolers
The water company also has an ongoing programme to install water coolers in residential care homes and this is proving very successful.
Good hydration is a vital nutrient for the health and well-being of older people.
South Staffs advises: “We need to drink plenty of water every day to replenish our bodies' stocks of water, which are consumed during normal respiration and more rapidly by exercise. Medical specialists confirm that every adult should consume six or eight glasses of water each day to maintain good hydration.”
