Importance of hydration

28/02/09

Baroness Greengross, a Vice President of Age Concern, has convened a group of organisations with a particular interest in the hydration of older people.

The group recently met in the House of Lords to explore ways of improving hydration for older people living in care homes and to consider the desirability, or otherwise, of making hydration an enforceable standard in the regulation of care.

Water UK and other members of the Water For Health Alliance are particularly concerned that older people living in care homes should have access to water and be offered it regularly.

Baroness Greengross shares this concern, and hopes to initiate a short parliamentary debate on the importance to older people of drinking sufficient water.

Water UK is also supporting 'Hydrate for Health', a system which helps people, particularly those who are bed bound or disabled, have easy access to drinking water.
