Tap water in the UK is among the best in the world. A tough regulatory regime ensures that the quality of mains water meets standards set by the Drinking Water Directive backed by the World Health Organisation.
In England and Wales the most recent annual report of the Drinking Water Inspectorate showed that 99.96% of all tests carried out met the required standards.
