MEPs in Strasbourg have now voted on the amendments to the Directive on the Sustainable Use of Pesticides and the Regulation on the Placing of Plant Protection Products on the markets.
Water UK welcomes the results of the vote, in particular the emphasis on ensuring that the objectives set in Articles 4 and 7, which respectively relate to environmental objectives and to waters used for the abstraction of drinking water, can be met.
The Drinking Water Directive sets a standard of 0.1µg/l for pesticides for water supplied to consumers. Further protection of water resources will assist in delivering this standard.
