We are responding specifically in relation to the proposals in Chapter 3 of the consultation to introduce powers for investigators to compel certain named categories of organisation to comply with local authorities’
requests for data.
The water industry regards these proposals as being essentially an extension of existing powers in relation to matters such as housing benefit fraud. These existing powers have not proved to be an undue burden on water companies.
