Press release: Water UK has responded to Defra's consultation on the draft Flood and Water Management Bill.
Water UK urges ministers to involve the water industry closely as proposals in the draft Bill are developed in the coming months.
While supporting ministers' aims in implementing their well-received 'Future Water' strategy for England, the industry seeks clarity on how the findings of three current reviews will be brought into the bill. The reviews are:
• Walker Review on charging and metering
• Cave Review on competition and innovation
• Consultation on abstraction licensing.
Water UK is also concerned about a range of proposals in the bill including: continuing lack of clarity about flood management responsibilities; arrangements for connection to the sewerage system; operation of sustainable urban drainage systems; and powers to change water companies' conditions of appointment.
