Industry hopes for Flood and Water Bill

30/11/09

Flooding in Cumbria has focused attention on the government’s much-anticipated Flood and Water Management Bill, published last week.

The Bill might look a bit different from its draft incarnation but the contents are largely the same.

Water UK will highlight particular concerns about arrangements for sustainable urban drainage schemes while monitoring the development of surface water management plans and surface area charging.

Still missing are proposals to combat the serious and growing problem of customer debt. The independent Walker Review – due for publication next week – is expected to deal with this. It is hoped that there will still be time for positive recommendations to be incorporated into the Bill.
