The water industry association Water UK has announced a strategic review of its objectives and activities and some staff changes including the departure of four policy advisers.
The companies Water UK serves are beginning a new decade of work on behalf of consumers and the environment. Their priority is to do more for customers while becoming more efficient and holding prices down. This is true for the industry's operations and capital programme but also its policy and stakeholder activity.
The review and changes at Water UK are part of an industry looking to the future more focused than ever on outcomes and delivery.
Water UK must play its full part by becoming even more efficient in delivering industry objectives. Its core role is to identify inadequacies in water policy, to develop and build support for fresh approaches. It will also support member companies by commissioning industry-wide policy initiatives and representing the industry in public and media debate where there is commonality of interest.
In carrying out this work the current staff team will be strengthened by the recruitment of two senior policy advisers.
The strategic review will enable Water UK to work more effectively for positive change with policy-makers in government and opposition, business, regulation, NGOs and academia. Later this year, the organisation will announce the launch of Water UK Future Forum, a platform for debate setting water in the wider and longer-term context of social, economic and environmental sustainability.
