Looking after water in your home

09/05/08

UK tap water is among the best in the world, but we don't always make the most of it.

Today Water UK launches Looking after water in your home, a consumer guide to help everyone get the full benefit of a national asset.

Many people would say that water is water and looks after itself. But for lots of reasons more of us are now aware of its true value and agree that it deserves proper care and attention.

This easy-to-use on-line booklet shows how a few simple actions can help us maintain the excellent quality and taste of tap water in the home and save money by avoiding all too common problems.

For example:

 • Keep taps clean to stop water being contaminated

 • Make sure kitchen appliances don’t spoil the taste of drinking water

 • If you're changing the plumbing use only fittings approved for use with drinking water

The booklet allows readers to turn pages, zoom in and out, add notes and select options to suit their own needs.

Pamela Taylor, Water UK Chief Executive, said:

"Almost everything we buy comes with instructions for use and storage. It's odd that something as important as tap water is an exception. This new guide fills the gap with advice and reminders about how to look after water inside and outside the home."
