Tap water quality

02/05/08

Water UK responds to an article criticising drinking water quality which appeared in the Daily Mail on 1 May.

Letter

To the Editor

Dr Robert Morris's article on the supply of water (1 May) makes alarming allegations but provides no evidence to back up the impression that disaster is imminent. In the UK our water safety regime meets the highest international standards as shown in the reports of industry regulators over many years. The industry is not complacent, however, and continues to invest in scientific research and technology to ensure that it is ready for potential new risks whatever their origin. It is disappointing that you can print Dr Morris's attack on a trusted service without any attempt to give a balanced picture.
