Innovation Forum - Water Resources

05/09/07

Delivering the twin-track approach through collaboration and innovation

Water UK is committed to promoting sustainable water policy. Our Innovation Forum is a key part of this work because innovation is at the heart of sustainable development.

Several things are certain. We are risk-averse. We are highly regulated. We are driven by statutory requirements and stringent standards. And we work in tight four-year or five-year planning cycles. So I can forgive people for asking whether innovation really has a chance in the industry.

But I want to say first, that we have a good record on innovation; second, that this will stand us in good stead for the future; but third, this is no time to relax.

We have a lot of work to do. We need to build a culture of innovation. I’ll talk about this in four areas: supply, demand, climate change and public perception.
