Some forecasters are already predicting that the winter will again be colder than average, and the water industry is making sure that we are ready for any extreme conditions that might come our way.
Last year's exceptionally cold winter, and in particular the thaw between Christmas and New Year, caused burst pipes and supply interruptions, and industry teams worked around the clock during the holiday period to keep the water flowing.
But companies can only do so much; a key message is that customers should make sure their own pipes are lagged, thereby reducing the risk of a burst.
