Energy smart meter rollout - is water next?

30/03/10

The Water UK Metering Symposium on 20 May 2010 asks the big question. The answers could influence overall water policy and the shape of the sector for years to come.

Installation of electricity smart meters has begun, with suppliers responsible for all UK households. In water the rate of installation is increasing: 50% of household customers in England and Wales will pay a measured charge by 2015.

The Department for Energy and Climate Change set the target for all homes to have smart electricity meters by 2020. Retailers have supported the plans and five of the 'Big Six' suppliers having started rollout programmes.

For water, the Environment Agency has argued for acceleration in metering, and for universal metering by 2015 in water stressed areas.

To hear more about these issues, contribute your own thinking and take part in detailed discussions on related issues with experts from across the industry, join us at the Metering Symposium 2010 on Thursday 20 May.
