'Connect Right' tackles domestic causes of pollution and sewer flooding

26/02/10

The water companies and Environment Agency are drawing attention to the many thousands of homes causing environmental harm through misconnected waste pipes.

Misconnections occur when washing machines, dishwashers, baths, showers and even toilets are connected to surface water drains instead of foul water drains (sewers) or when roof drains, new buildings or gutters are connected by mistake to the foul water system.

This results in polluted rivers, spoiled beauty spots and recreation sites, harm to wildlife and flooding of sewers, with terrible consequences for people and neighbourhoods.

Representatives from both Houses of Parliament, local government and industry supported the House of Commons campaign launch hosted by Paddy Tipping MP.
