The industry's latest indicators show further improvements in drinking water and environmental quality standards. We are proud to have some of the cleanest drinking water in the world, with compliance up from last year.
The number of Sites of Special Scientific Interest in target condition in England and Wales has also increased, reflecting the time and investment companies have made in conservation work.
However, there is still more to do. For example, while total energy use is stable, greenhouse gas emissions are up. This reflects, in part, the tension between increasing environmental water quality standards that provide questionable benefits to customers, and the energy, and carbon emissions, companies must use in order to meet these standards.
