A successful and robust water industry meeting the many challenges it faces in the 21st century - that’s the message from the latest Water UK Sustainability Indicators report.
In 2009-10 there was significant progress: the risk of sewer flooding, one of the most unpleasant and distressing service failures, is down; about a quarter of the materials used in maintenance and construction projects are from recycled sources; almost all of the Sites of Special Scientific Interest on water company landholdings in England are in target condition; and the industry is using fewer chemicals to treat drinking water while maintaining high standards.
