A European Parliament seminar this month called for a paradigm shift in the European water industry to help meet targets on resource efficiency set in Europe 2020, the European Community strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth.
It is important that the water industry contributes to this strategy and realises its potential, through innovation, for renewable energy through recovery of nutrients for agriculture, including phosphorus and nitrogen.
The seminar, organised by the Dutch Association of Regional Water Authorities and supported by Eureau, provided some interesting examples as to how these ambitions could be achieved.
