Several water companies are included among the organisations listed as best performers in managing energy use, according to Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) performance tables.
The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme is a mandatory government scheme aimed at improving energy efficiency and cutting emissions in large public and private sector organisations. As high energy users, water companies are included.
Water UK members publish separate sustainability indicators that track energy use, renewable energy production and greenhouse gas emissions, and companies have a joint commitment to reduce their carbon footprint.
The 2010-11 Sustainability Indicators will be published in December.
