Preparations for the transfer of private sewers are understood to be delayed, with regulations enabling the transfer probably not coming into force until 1 July 2011 – three months later than planned.
The transfer date remains 1 October 2011. Water and sewerage companies say that this timetable is already extremely challenging, bearing in mind the scale of the task involved, and that any further slippage will cause serious logistic problems.
Water UK members have also raised with Defra officials a series of concerns about the technical aspects of the transfer and are meeting Ofwat to discuss regulatory and financial details.
