High hopes for infrastructure forum

29/01/10

Minister for Trade Lord Davies of Abersoch has outlined initiatives to promote infrastructure investment and, primarily, find £400bn worth of financing in the decade ahead.

This investment is essential to UK competitiveness and the Minister is in the process of determining a national infrastructure strategy in a non-partisan, non-political way.

He is also taking steps to ensure that the new independent investment body – Infrastructure UK – gains cross-party support and its life extends beyond the general election.

He believes we need to find ways – new financial products, for instance – to tap the investment potential of UK pension funds.

Finding private funds to invest in infrastructure, of course, is what the water industry has excelled in during the past two decades. It is ready to share its expertise with the Minister and collaborate with all parties interested in infrastructure investment.
