The public water supply continues to offer our governments a safe, efficient, socially inclusive and cost effective partner for their ambitions to improve the health and well-being of UK citizens. For 2007, Water UK hopes to see drinking water move still further up the health policy agenda.
This year: schools will expected to make free, fresh water available throughout the day; Ministers will wish to see fresh drinking water become implicit in the care of older people; national campaigns will bring hydration to hospitals and workplaces; tap water will become the natural partner to responsible drinking campaigns; licensed premises will increasingly offer tap water on request; and our governments and public transport networks will slowly start to move away from their bottled water supply contracts to a more sustainable mains-fed provision.
