The chances of England’s primary and secondary schools meeting the water provision requirements of the new nutritional standards are looking increasingly remote.
Despite funding, toolkits and continuing active support by stakeholders and many of England’s water companies, as the September 2007 deadline approaches, Water UK understands that a large number of schools will not meet the requirements.
Schools were initially given one year to ensure that free, fresh water be made available to children throughout their day.
Recent parliamentary answers appear to show the government doing very little to enforce its nutritional standards or head off another missed health policy target.
