Positive steps for hydration in NHS

26/04/07

The Water for Health Alliance initiative to highlight the vital role of good hydration in hospitals was launched by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) on 18 April.

The Water UK led stakeholder alliance aims to improve access and information on drinking water for patients, staff and visitors.
The RCN launched the 'Nutrition Now' initiative at their National Congress in Harrogate and is developing the hydration aspects in a partnership approach with Water UK, NHS Procurement, the National Patient Safety Agency, the Hospital Caterers Association, the Patients Association and healthcare industry regulator the Health Care Commission.
The campaign has already delivered materials to inform nurses on how they can improve access to water on the wards. It will now produce practical guidance in the form of a hydration best practice toolkit and procurement support.
