The fitness check forms part of the European Commission Blueprint for Water, due to be completed by November 2012, and will assess water policy effectiveness and suitability. In the UK, the Severn river basin has been selected for scrutiny, with a focus on nitrates, flooding and environmental issues.
Deloitte has been appointed as support consultants and will be carrying out stakeholder interviews during April.
The UK water industry is keen to contribute to this work and will call for water policy that is focused on overall environmental improvements while considering the costs that may have to be passed on to customers.
