Europe's new Intergroup on Water provides an excellent opportunity to raise the profile of water and give it the central place it deserves in European policy-making.
Eureau, the European Federation of National Associations of Drinking Water Suppliers and Waste Water Services, with Water UK as a leading member, facilitated the setting-up of the group, with support from more than 100 MEPs.
The group is chaired by Dr Richard Seeber MEP, EPP group coordinator in the European Parliament Committee on Environment, and Eureau will provide the secretariat.
Its first meeting was held at the European Parliament in January. For DG Environment, Peter Gammeltoft, Head of the Water Unit, and Claude Rouam, Head of the Marine Unit, opened discussions on challenges facing the European water sector.
