Pharmaceuticals: not a problem - yet?

The World Health Organization has clarified that there is currently little risk to public health from pharmaceuticals in drinking water. As consumers should we be concerned?


Shouldn't we expect our drinking water to be free from 'contamination' of any type? Indeed, our drinking water quality standards are based largely on health based limits to ensure public health.

But let's be clear: if there were any risk, these chemicals would be included in the appropriate standards and the rigorous monitoring programmes already in place…
