The European Commission has confirmed that there is to be no formal review of the Drinking Water Directive.
Instead, a Communication paper will be issued to explore how policy options around small water supplies, and incorporating risk assessment, could be implemented. Water UK will fully consider the scope and extent of the Communication.
Given that the UK is largely at the vanguard in implementing a risk-based approach through the Water Safety Plans, now firmly established within our regulatory framework, it is considered unlikely that there will be major implications.
