In 2009 people in England and Wales enjoyed high quality and increased confidence in their drinking water. The latest Drinking Water Inspectorate figures also signal welcome improvements from targeted investment beyond statutory requirements.
In her letter to the water minister to announce the 2009 report, DWI Chief Inspector Professor Jeni Colbourne writes of the "positive improving trend in public confidence in drinking water quality as measured by consumers".
The report also records a significant reduction in complaints - down by more than a quarter – following targeted investment to address water discolouration.
