Among water companies’ most critical relationships is naturally with fire and rescue services. A National Liaison Group on Fire fighting Activities meets twice a year to ensure good communication at policy level.
This update is reassuring evidence that the partners are taking care of business that is crucial to us all.
The group which is chaired by Defra and attended by representatives from the water industry, the Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA), Drinking Water Inspectorate, Local Government Association and Communities and Local Government is currently dealing with the challenges of a rapidly modernising fire service.
In recent months there have been developments in: responsibility for maintenance; a new dataset for hydrant location; domestic sprinklers; and national guidance on provision of water for fire fighting.
