Water companies are actively preparing for the cold weather winter seems likely to bring. As well as making sure they are prepared to meet the challenges of winter, companies are encouraging customers to do their bit.
Homeowners and businesses are being urged to make sure that their own water pipes are lagged – and that unattended properties are properly protected and checked – in order to prevent leaks on the customer side of the pipework and problems elsewhere.
The ‘Wrap Up for winter’ leaflet describes how to avoid frozen pipes, what to do if a pipe freezes and what to do if a pipe bursts.
Companies are also urging customers to let them know if they spot a leak in the street. That way the company can respond quickly, get the leak fixed and keep our water supply secure.
