Early this month water companies across the UK joined forces with the police and government to launch a national awareness campaign to help tackle bogus caller crime.
Companies have scaled up their actions with this initiative because more than half of bogus caller crimes in the UK are carried out by criminals pretending to be from a water company.
Statistics show that around 35 bogus caller crimes are committed each day, but this might be as little as 10% of the real total because victims are often too embarrassed to come forward.
The campaign Knock knock! Who’s there? Be stranger aware! is supported by the Home Office, the Association of Chief Police Officers, Water UK and the Consumer Council for Water.
