The water industry has launched an initiative to improve consumer access to good information and qualified plumbing services for care of water in the home.
Responsibility for pipes and fittings rests with the property owner and is outside water company control.
However, unlike the gas service industry which until recently operated the ‘Corgi’ registration scheme, water has no clear consumer-focused mark of quality for services and the supply of parts.
The result is many instances of poor installation practice leading to major water quality problems for consumers in their homes.
Through discussions with plumbing industry organisations, government and supplier representatives, the industry hopes to support a more standardised approach and industry branding, removing the current confusion facing customers.
