The latest UKCP09 climate projections are complex and detailed. Broadly, they show a (not too distant) future of drier hotter summers and milder wetter winters, punctuated by extreme temperatures, storms, floods and droughts.
They also present an irresistible case for action now to prepare for and adapt to the inevitable impacts of climate change, particularly for critical sectors such as water.
Above all, the projections demonstrate that through concerted and coordinated effort to reduce emissions, the very worst impact of the change can still (must) be avoided. The moral and economic imperative of taking action on all fronts, both adaptation and mitigation, is stronger than ever.
