Defra has listened to views and made some helpful changes to the Carbon Reduction Commitment scheme, which will cover all UK water companies.
Some suggested changes to the CRC scheme, including a fixed carbon price during the introductory phase, the system of bonuses and penalties, and the treatment of renewable energy (particularly CHP - combined heat and power), could have significant impacts on the water industry.
Water companies will be monitoring these carefully as the scheme moves forward and will respond in detail to the further consultation in the summer.
