With world leaders queueing up to offer commitments in advance of talks in Copenhagen, the links to water are worth considering.
We know that water is at the forefront of the impacts of climate change and the sector must be high on the agenda when the talks focus on adaptation.
On mitigation, a global treaty will increase pressure on Europe and the UK to deliver their target of a 30% or so cut in emissions by 2020.
Water industry emissions are still increasing and expected to remain stable at best until 2015. It can't be long before the two worlds collide and we collectively start taking steps to get emissions in the sector on a downward path.
