More action on adaptation

30/09/10

Water UK supports the Adaptation Committee of the Committee on Climate Change in its clear statement that adapatation should be seen as complementary to mitigation, not an alternative.

The committee lists five areas for action involving local authorities, public sector agencies, business and individuals: land use planning; national infrastructure; emergency planning; designing and renovating buildings; and managing natural resources.

In all five, water matters. The water industry is in the front line of climate change, whether experienced as more frequent droughts and floods affecting public supply or impacts on the natural environment.
