A Water UK position paper on climate change mitigation covers measuring, reporting and managing greenhouse gas emissions.
The paper details opportunities for, and barriers to, increasing renewable energy generation and reducing emissions in line with the Climate Change Act.
The new position complements Water UK's statement on adaptation to climate change, published in December. It deals with the policy environment – the regulatory and legislative framework within which the water industry operates, and explores a number of areas where further progress on emissions and renewable energy could be made.
The paper emphasises that the industry will need to work in partnership with others to play a full role in mitigating its contribution to climate change.
