This year’s City Conference was chaired by Kevin Whiteman, Executive Chairman, Kelda Group Ltd and high profile speakers included Regina Finn, Chief Executive of Ofwat, Dr Richard Hern, Associate Director, NERA and Matthew Parr, Principal Consultant, Indepen Consulting.
Tony Wray, Chief Executive, Severn Trent Plc chaired our morning panel session to discuss key strategic issues impacting on the future of the industry and how to ensure that the outcome of PR09 is sustainable and meets the objectives of customers and stakeholders, in the short, medium and long term. The second panel discussion of the morning explored the prospects for sustainably financing the water sector at PR09, given the results from the research presented on the Cost of Capital and the Investors Survey.
Delegates enjoyed a seated networking lunch before hearing from the two key note speakers in the afternoon session. Ray Barrell, Director of Macro Economic Research and Forecasting of the UK and World Economies, National Institute of Economic and Social Research and Martin Hurst, Director of Water, Defra.
Callum Mitchell Thomson from JP Morgan gave an equity focus and the Royal Bank of Scotland presented on the market in 2009. The final panel discussion of the day was chaired by Doug King, Vice Chairman, Deloitte and explored future finance and investment issues for the industry and the impact of a rapidly changing financial and economic climate on the forthcoming price review.
Delegates gave positive feedback on leaving the event and commented on the high profile speakers and broad representation from the industry’s regulators, Water UK member organisations and the City.
