Metering Symposium 2009

Chris Loughlin, Chief Executive, South West Water chaired this timely event to explore future policy around metering and tariffs. Anna Walker set out her thoughts on her emerging final review and Anne McIntosh MP, Shadow Minister, Environment, Water and Waste brought delegates the Conservative Party vision for water resources and metering.

Jean Spencer, Director of Regulation and Executive Director, Anglian Water led on providing the industry perspective on future metering strategy and its impact on customers and Paul Hope, Head of Water Resource Economics gave Ofwat’s perspective on delivering an appropriate metering strategy for water, in the light of the recent Draft Determinations.

Delegates had the chance to contribute their thinking to interactive panel discussions and lively agenda setting breakout sessions, which considered some of the following questions:

Recommendations and findings from the Walker Review – what key issues need to be taken in to account for a fair charging system?

What metering and charging systems do customers want?

What technology do we need to achieve that?

In the afternoon there were presentations by Dr Robert Thurlby and Andy Corkhill on smart metering and cross sector knowledge sharing and Scott Reid, Director, ICS Consulting presented findings from two leading studies looking at future methods of charging for the water industry.
